DRAGONFLY 28

HIGH PERFORMANCE TRIMARAN

A fast, groundbreaking trailer-sailer.

The European designed and built Dragonfly 28 trimaran is setting new standards for what’s possible in a sailing boat.

Of course, the perfect boat doesn’t exist – but the Dragonfly 28 comes very, very close.

The Dragonfly 28 trimaran is great fun and easy to handle, accommodating five people. This majestic trimaran is for the modern sailor; it is all about possibilities, fun – and incorporating the very latest in multihull technology. And let’s not forget sailability.

The Dragonfly 28 comes in three versions – the Touring version (trailable family cruiser), the Sport version (the trailable In- and Off-shore Racer) … and the Performance version comes with new wave-piercing float designs, giving the ultimate performance.

DRAGONFLY 28 KEY FEATURES

INTERIOR

The Dragonfly 28 enjoys five berths, a separate head and a full, neatly designed galley and enough stowage for a week’s family cruising.

You’ll enjoy a surprising level of volume below, thanks to the impressive “steps” in the hull, where the saloon seating is placed. In the middle, the table has folding leaves and the companionway ladder can be folded away, allowing it to be positioned either port or starboard – depending on whether the galley or the chart table is being used …

… or it can be removed completely to give access to the double berth right underneath the cockpit. The impressive 28 has standing headroom of 1.85 m in the main cabin as well as a generous galley space on each side, and the spacious dinette offers a fabulous view outside, similar to a deck saloon yacht.

EXTERIOR

The new 28’s floats are based on the longer, wave-piercing reverse-bowed specimens that have proved successful on other models, giving more buoyancy and more volume forward to lift the bows and prevent pitchpoling.

The Dragonfly 28 weighs just 1700kgs, retracts to a beam of 2.5m and can go from behind your car to blasting across the bay in around 40 minutes. With a draft of only 45cm, you can anchor into any bay or even beach the boat on a sandy shore – and the big double trampolines offer the perfect sun deck akin to a superyacht.

The Swing Wing feature also means that you can use normal marina berths when folded, while maintaining a stable and safe platform.

The Dragonfly 28 is easy to sail single-handedly and is a multifunctional multihull – and a versatile performer.

KEY FEATURES

  • Lightweight and trailerable at 1680kgs
  • Deeper rudder for more control
  • Elvstrøm Technora EEPX sails come standard.
  • Impeccable build quality
  • Revolutionary ‘Swing Wing’ system – retract the amas in 60 seconds
  • Spacious, five-berth accommodation

DRAGONFLY FACTS

DRAGONFLY DESIGNERS

Dragonfly founder Jens Quorning teamed up with Danish naval designers Olsen Design in 2005, and their innovative collaboration was the start of a successful new era for Dragonfly Trimarans, with the introduction of 3D design.

Steen Olsen is the sole owner of Olsen Design and has played an integral role in the design and calculations of the last four Dragonfly models. Steen has more than 20 years of experience in naval design and has designed folding propellers, hatches and optimised rig details for America’s Cup sailboats. Steen has a passion for sailing and has won several racing awards internationally.

DRAGONFLY BUILD

The Dragonfly reputation starts with what sets them apart … top of the line, fast, lightweight trimarans.

Dragonfly's construction has consistent quality, a great team and customisation. Dragonfly Trimarans have been made in the same boatyard for 50 years, working towards widespread acceptance. The production facility has dedicated and highly skilled staff setting impossibly high standards for modern boatbuilding today. Working closely with some of the most qualified and experienced suppliers and subcontractors in the world, resulting in boats of impeccable, flawless quality.

SWING-WING SYSTEM

The award-winning Dragonfly Swing Wing system was designed by Borge and Jens Quorning in 1989. Using this revolutionary system, the trimaran can be folded to reduce the beam by more than 50% in less than one minute per side, using no tools and operating only from the cockpit.

This unique folding system has been standard on all Dragonflies since the introduction of the Quorning Swing Wing system. This allows them to use marina berths intended for monohulls and to be trailerable, saving space when accommodated in a harbour, marina or on land greatly reduces your storage costs!

Sailboat Review: Lagoon Sixty 5

Cruising World – November, 2022

Of all the tweaks and changes in the design and layout of large cruising catamarans, surely the most innovative has been the addition of the flybridge steering station and “upstairs” lounging space.
